With the Nigerian Government insisting that international passengers present a Covid-19 negative certificate before boarding their flights, designated centers are being overwhelmed by the huge numbers of people seeking their services.
One of the governmentt-approved centres in Owerri, Imo state capital, Evergreen Diagnostic & Medical Centre located at ever-busy Bank Road has become a Mecca of some sort with its attendant heavy traffic gridlock.
Prompt News reports that the center which is the only Government Approved facility in the South East to issue air travelers Covid-19 certificates which are part of the requirements now before boarding international flights has been overstretched by large number of people who flock the center in droves.
Investigations revealed that intending travellers from Imo, Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi and part of Delta and Enugu states come to Owerri for the Covid-19 negative certificate as directed by the Presidential Taskforce on Covid-19 Pandemic (PTF) headed by the SGF, Boss Mustapha.
As a result of the influx of people from outside the state, the volume of traffic along Bank Road, Owerri has increased, causing heavy gridlock as vehicles are parked indiscriminately outside the center.
A city bus driver who gave his name as Augustine Obi said “I am aware that my relation who came back for Christmas from USA even paid for his Covid-19 test at Evergreen Diagnostic Center in Owerri from abroad. Many people in the South East use this centre too as directed by Aviation authorities”, Obi told our correspondent.
