A Magistrates’ Court in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja on Friday sentenced an applicant, Emeka Ezeome, to two and a half years in prison for robbing passengers of their possessions.
The police charged a driver, Fatai Idris and his Ezeome , with two counts of criminal conspiracy and robbery.
While Idris pleaded not guilty, Ezeome, pleaded guilty.
Magistrate, Abdulmajid Oniyang, who sentenced Ezeome, gave him an option to pay a fine of N12,000.
Oniyangi said this would serve as a deterrent to the convict and would be offenders
The magistrate remanded Idris in Keffi Correctional Facility.
Oniyangi adjourned the case until Sept. 23 for hearing.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Donatus Abah told the court that a team of policemen attached to the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department ( CIID), FCT Police, on patrol intercepted the defendants immediately they robbed the passengers on Sept 2.
Abah further alleged that the two men in a Mazda vehicle with registration number: ABJ 70 CD robbed two passengers, Cynthia Willox and Esther Ekenga, both of Jahi, Abuja.
He averred that the passengers were disposed of their mobile phones valued at N75,000, Zenith and Union bank ATM cards and N19,000 cash before the policemen apprehended them and recovered the items from them.
The offence, he said contravened the provisions of sections 97 and 298 of the Penal Code.
