Court remands siblings in custody for alleged N3.7m fraud

An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun, on Tuesday,  remanded one Eludoyin Pedro, 50, and her brother, Omorogba Pedro, 55, in custody for alleged N3.7 million fraud.The prosecutor, Insp Monday Ojiezele, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometimes in 2012 at Funai Hotel, Ondo Road,  Ile-Ife.Ojiezele said that the defendant conspired together to commit felony to wit: obtaining money under false pretence, stealing and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.He added that the defendants obtained the sum of N3.7 million from one Mr Rotimi Makinde under the false pretence to sell for him a building located at Arubidi Street, Ile-Ife.Ojiezele explained that the defendants stole and converted Makinde’s money to their own use by fraudulently collecting it for their own use.The prosecutor stated further that the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace.Ojiezele said that the defendants prepared false letters, using Pedro family letter headed paper for the transaction and collected N3.7 million from the plaintiff.The prosecutor stated further that the offence contravened Sections 249(D), 383, 390, 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun,  2002.Magistrate Joseph Owolawi did not grant the bail of the defendants but ordered their remand at the Ilesa correctional centre.The case was adjourned until Jan. 24, 2020, for hearing.
