The National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Ekiti Chapter has called on Governor Kayode Fayemi to put mercenaries in motion for the conduct local government election.
Mr. Bunmi Ajimoko, the newly elected President of NULGE in the state, told a press conference on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti.
He posited that the slow pace of development across the state, especially at the grassroots, was as a result of non democratization of the government at the local council’s level.
NULGE, Ekiti chapter kicked against continued use of hand-picked people in the name of Caretaker Committees to run the Councils.
“The problem with our local government is that we don’t have truly elected people who should be accountable to those who elected them.
“All they are after is themselves and those that appointed them because they know their tenure is not fixed.
“The best they can get is six months renewable.
“What they do the very day they are sworn-in is just to begin to count days and do things with reckless abandonment,” the former Ekiti NLC chairman said.
Ajimoko, also alleged high rate of corruption at the Local Government councils, urging Governor Fayemi to consider their plea.
