As efforts are being made to give the ailing ex- Green Eagles captain and Enugu Rangers icon, Christian Chukwu further medical care abroad, his immediate family are very calm of his recovery.
When Prompt News visited his residence at Trans Ekulu area of Enugu, it was confirmed by a neighbour who pleaded anonymity that Chukwu has been hospitalised at an undisclosed hospital in the capital city.
He was said to be out of public view for sometime now suggesting that all may not be going well for the ever- vibrant Chukwu who is a national hero since 1980 when he captained the Eagles to win their first African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Also a visit to Chukwu’s family house at Kenyatta Street in the heart of Coal City revealed that they are aware of his sickness but would not disclose the nature of the illness nor mention the name of the hospital where the former Chief Coach of the Super Eagles is being treated.
A young male who was seen at the house politely said he is preparing for an examination hence cannot say much but he confirmed that Chukwu is in the hospital in Enugu.
Anxiety has mounted in the country at the weekend over the reports of Chukwu’s failing health condition with one of his associates in the United States of America (USA) revealing that the former Head Coach of the Kenyan senior football team requires a princely sum of $50, 000 to seek proper medical attention in US.
A request which his former employer, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has graciously granted by announcing it will help to ensure that Chukwu gets back to his feet soonest.
Chukwu had at one time or another also served as the Technical Consultant to Heartland FC of Owerri; Technical
Adviser and General Manager of Enugu Rangers and current working with the club in different capacity before falling sick.
