A group, Nigeria Youth Initiative Forum (NYIF) has noted that the ongoing trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, is political.
Mr. Saraki is facing a 13-count charge bordering on corruption and false declaration of assets.
But, the NYIF in a statement signed by its National President, Wahab Ayinde Sikiru and Secretary, Alabi Samuel Olumide, insisted some powerful political figures are behind the trial.
According to the group, “This is going out of hand because it just take common sense to know that we have the Apex Court in this country and for Supreme Court to give an order and a Lower Court can overrule it and continue with the trial, we think this is abnormal, this is wrong; it simply shows that our law is meaningless.
“Our question is can the CODE OF CONDUCT TRIBUNAL (CCT) overrules the SUPREME COURT Orders?
“Can we fight Corruption with Corruption? Our law is showing a great weakness to the world, it is very clear to us that there is Corruption in the judiciary.
“The youths have work so hard in achieving this great peace, stability and democracy for Nigeria and we cannot sit down and watch all our efforts being jeopardized”.
In the light of this, the NYIF said it has concluded arrangements to stage a protest over the continued trial of the Senate President by the CCT when the Supreme Court has not ruled on the jurisdiction matter brought before it.
The statement reads further, “The protest will take place in the six (6) geo-political zones of NYIF (KANO for North West, BAUCHI for North East, KWARA for North Central, AKWAIBOM for South South, IMO for South East, and LAGOS for South West) within seven days.
“On this note, we plead with President Muhammadu Buhari to please intervene in this matter before it goes out of control”.
NYIF is an organization borne out of a vision to change the lives of youth and young adult in Nigeria, the organization is made up of young professionals who believe in a better Nigeria and are committed to improving our society also providing better opportunity for the next generation.
