By Gracious Akujobi Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is organizing a two-day golf tournament in collaboration with IBB Gold Club.
The tournament, which is the 7th edition and dubbed ‘CBN Governor’s Cup’ is holding from November 23-24, 2013, in Abuja.
Addressing a press briefing, CBN Director Corporate of Communications, Ugo Okoroafor said the tournament is being sponsored as aprt of the Apex Bank’s corporate responsibility.
He said, “This event has been on for the past six years as efforts will be made to intensify and improve on achievements recorded so far as the apex bank is committed towards partnering with relevant Stakeholders to develop the game of golf in line with its corporate social responsibility.
“We have made adequate arrangements to ensure that this year’s tournament will be a memorable one.
Captain of IBB Golf Club, Debo Olateju while commending CBN for sponsoring the tourney stressed that this year’s event will involve lots of activities and will bring a lot of interest to the game of golf.
His words, “Sports at any time promotes good health, enhances economy as well as maintain mental alertness, supporting sports means promoting good health because health is wealth”.
However, CBN said since it is an amateur tournament there will be no cash prize attached to it, saying the golfers will be presented with trophies and prizes in the 12 categories of the male and female tournament.
Dignitaries expected to grace the tournament include Senate President David Mark, South African Deputy High Commissioner Kenneth Pedro and 180 other golfers.
