Acting Chairman of National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, (NSIWC) Ekpo Nta has debunked claims that the agency pays arears of salaries, allowances and pensions of workers.
In a statement he personally signed and made available to the media on Monday, the Chairman insisted that the agency does not compute arrears.
The statement explained that this clarification became necessary as “some unknown person call and send text messages to workers and pensioners to contact an ‘unknown’ person in the Commission who is with their files, compiling and computing the arrears of their salaries, allowances and pension as the case may be”.
The statement expressed concern that in the process, gullible workers and pensioners are defrauded, and urged workers and pensioners to disregard such telephone calls and text messages and report same to law enforcement agencies.
The statement further clarified that the Commission only conveys to the Ministry Department and Agencies (MDAs) approvals for implementation of revised salaries, allowances and pension.
It added that where payment of arrears is involved, “it is the MDAs that compute it for their workers, and the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) computes the arrears of pensions for pensioners where necessary”.
