Bayelsa State Government has confirmed the death of wife of its Secretary to the Government, Elizabeth Oguru, alongside other prominent women leaders in a fatal motor accident.
The accident occurred along the Ahoada/Elele section of the East/West Road in Rivers State, while the women were returning from Port Harcourt where they reportedly visited First Lady Patience Jonathan.
Prominent among those who died were Consider Amadi, a former Woman Leader in Ogbia; Clara Abila, a grassroots politician; Immaculate Amasimua, a former Commissioner in the Bayelsa State Civil Service Commission; Zimbra Goma, a former Commissioner for Women Affairs in Bayelsa State; and Hon. Ruby Benjamin, a former member of the House of Assembly representing Brass Constituency 1 of Bayelsa State.
Governor Henry Seriake Dickson expressed deep pains, shock and grief over the sudden death of the wife of Professor Edmond Allison-Oguru, the Secretary to the State Government and a group of prominent Bayelsa Women.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, Governor Dickson described the incident as tragic, a monumental and painful loss to the State, stressing that, the women that, lost their lives in the accident were our mothers and sisters.
He also prayed God to grant the bereaved families the courage and strength to bear the very painful and irreparable losses.
The statement says, all official engagements of the Governor have been suspended for three days as a mark of honour and respect for the souls of the departed women.
