The 2016 Dstv Basketball Premier League dunks off on Friday March 18, 2016 with only five teams in the Atlantic Conference as against the eight featuring in the Savannah Conference participating, the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF has said.
Chairman of the technical committee Agboola Pinheiro who released the revised fixtures for the commencement of the league which was delayed by one week said this followed the suspension of three teams namely Lagos Islanders, Union Bank and Dodan Warriors who opted to play in the illegal African Basketball League, ABL.
“The league can go on without the three teams in the Atlantic Conference. With with only five teams playing every week, one team will be on standby,” he said, adding that the Savannah Conference will go on with the usual eight teams registered for the season.
As a result, each team in the Atlantic Conference will play two games each every week with Nigeria Customs hosting newly promoted Royal Hoopers first on Friday and another game on Sunday while Oluyole Warriors host Kwara Falcons in Ibadan first on Friday and then again on Sunday.
Meanwhile officials of the three excluded clubs in the Atlantic Conference, it was gathered, are making frantic efforts to get reinstated into the Dstv league.
