The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.
In a judgment delivered on Friday by Justice Hamma Barka, a three-member panel of the court confirmed its earlier ruling from November 13, 2024, which recognized Abure as the Labour Party National Chairman.
The court emphasized that this decision has not been reversed by any other court.
Justice Barka made this declaration in response to two separate appeals filed by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, the Labour Party caretaker committee, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Court of Appeal further clarified that it did not address the matter of Labour Party leadership, as such issues are considered non-justiciable.
The court also ruled that any action taken beyond its jurisdiction is null and void. As a result, the judgment delivered by the Federal High Court on October 8, 2024, by Justice Emeka Nwite, was deemed invalid and was struck out due to lack of jurisdiction.
However, the Appeal Court reaffirmed its previous decision from November 13, 2024, stating that Abure remains the National Chairman of the Labour Party.
