Former Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has refuted claims by the Chairman of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, that his administration demolished the businessman’s cement factory twice.
In a statement signed by Lanre Akinwale on behalf of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun Media Office, the former governor dismissed the allegations as misleading and urged Dangote to present official approvals for the structures he alleged were demolished.
Amosun stressed that his government operated within the framework of the law and that no individual or business, including Dangote, was above regulatory requirements.
“As we await his response, it is crucial to state that not all Nigerians can be pressured, intimidated, or manipulated.
The assumption that everyone has a price reflects only on those with weak principles and questionable character,” the statement asserted.
The former governor also pointed out that during the commissioning of the Ibese Cement Factory, Dangote had commended his administration for promoting investment in Ogun State.
At the time, the businessman had credited the government with facilitating the establishment of the cement plant after years of setbacks under previous administrations.
Amosun further highlighted that his tenure attracted over 500 companies to Ogun State, earning recognition from the World Bank as one of Nigeria’s top three states for ease of doing business.
He added that his government transformed the state into Nigeria’s leading industrial hub, accounting for a significant share of foreign direct investment in the country’s manufacturing sector.
The statement concluded by urging Dangote to provide relevant documents on land acquisition and planning approvals for the disputed structures, calling for a fact-based discussion on the matter.
