Semi Ajayi described charging towards the buoyant Baggies fans in celebration after equalising at Craven Cottage as an “amazing feeling”.
The defender nodded in his first goal for the Albion late on against Fulham – a strike which ensured Slaven Bilić’s side extended their unbeaten run to seven games at the start of the Sky Bet Championship campaign.
And the Nigerian, back at the Club having represented his nation on Tuesday in Ukraine, admitted the sheer emotion got to him in the immediate moments following the leveller.
“I’m absolutely delighted to score my first goal. It’s been a long time coming,”he told the club’s official website.
“To get it in front of the away fans near the end of the game was a great feeling, but more importantly it has kept our unbeaten run going.
“Any goal is a good goal for me, including the tap-in today.
“I’m just really happy to open my account for Albion.
“It was an amazing feeling to run towards the away end and I lost myself for about five seconds after scoring.
“But then I remembered that we could actually go on to win the game so I ran back up the other end and got back in shape as quickly as I could.
“I’m delighted that we are still unbeaten. We may not have been at our best today but we are showing that we can ride those waves and come back stronger.”
