Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has lauded the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Chief Olamide Oladiji, for donation of educational materials and awarding scholarships to over 1,000 students.
The scholarship and educational materials were given to students in Ondo East/Ondo West Federal Constituency.
Aiyedatiwa, who was represented by his deputy, Mr Olayide Adelami, described the speaker as a political leader, who has gone beyond the mandate of his office to respond to the needs of his people.
“Let us emulate Rt. Hon Oladiji’s legacy in Ondo kingdom and create a future where every child in Ondo State has access to quality education regardless of their socio-economic background.
“We must, therefore, commend Mr Speaker for this bold and life-changing initiative, for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to education,”he stated.
In his speech, Oladiji said the gesture by him, which was the second, had helped to cushion the financial burden of many parents and guardians on their children’s education.
The speaker explained that the gesture was his own little contributions to the sustenance of academic standard in the state.
He called on other well-meaning Nigerians to support government in its drive to take education to a greater height in the state.
Oladiji said that some students in the last summer holiday coaching he organised also benefitted from the instructional materials and scholarships.
Appreciating the speaker on behalf of other beneficiaries, Miss Peace Omoniyi, a second year Nursing student of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) in Ondo, praised the philanthropic gesture of the speaker.
Omoniyi said that she had been on scholarship provided by the speaker for the past five years.
In their various goodwill messages, speakers on the occasion, including traditional rulers and political associates attested to the philanthropic disposition of the speaker, describing the gesture as laudable. (NAN).
