The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has reiterated his commitment to enhancing the welfare of officers and men of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), with a view to optimising their operational performance.
He said this on Tuesday, at the inauguration of some projects at the Communication Depot and NAF camp, in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the projects in 041 Communication depot include a 6×3 officers’ quarters and an assembly hall for the Air Force Secondary School.
There was also a tee off/unveiling of the Golf course.
At the 055 NAF Camp, Legico barracks, Victoria Island, a 24×1 studio apartment and tailoring workshop were also inaugurated.
Abubakar, represented by the Air Officer Commanding (AOC), Logistics Command, AVM Lawal Alao, said that the authorities would continue to do more.
He said that commissioning of the completed projects was a testimony of the pledge he made upon his assumption of office.
“Then, I made a resolve to improve the welfare needs of NAF personnel, being a major requirement in the development of human capacity for enhanced operational performance.
“You will bear me witness while the service is being restructured for efficient service delivery, in the last five years, there have also been phases of infrastructural development, si med at improving both the working and living condition of our personnel,” he said.
Abubakar urged the beneficiaries to embrace maintenance culture while using the facilities.
Air Commodore Nkem Aguiyi, the Commander, 041 Communication Depot, commended the air chief for his tremendous effort in ensuring the improvement of personnel welfare.
“Within the past four years of this current leadership, the NAF has witnessed unprecedented infrastructural development in NAF establishments in different parts of the country.
“There has been phenomenal improvement in the operational capability along with corresponding emplacement of necessary support structures.
“Like many other units and bases across the country, NAF base Shasha has benefitted immensely from different projects,” he said.
Wing Cdr. Abubakar Yahaya, the Commander, 055 NAF camp, expressed optimism that the apartments would enhance the living condition of personnel in the barracks.
He also thanked the chief of air staff, assuring that the facilities would be diligently used by beneficiaries.
