The Federal Government has extended the National Identification Number (NIM) and Subscibers Identity Module (SIM) linkage by eight more weeks with a new deadline of April 6, 2021 now in place.
According to a statement on Tuesday credited to the Minister of Communications, Dr. Isa Pantami, the extention is to give Nigerians and legal residents in Nigeria more time to integrate their NIM with SIM to avoid being disconnected from their mobile network providers.
The statement also said that the former deadline of February 9, 2021 was for people who have NIM to link it with their mobile numbers.
Prompt News reports that millions of Nigerians have been crowding National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) offices nationwide to register for NIM but without much success.
Even with the extension granted by the government, it is not expected that the entire population of mobile phone users in Nigeria will be lucky to register with NIMC to obtain NIM to integrate it to their SIM.
