Mr. Sunday Adeleye, technical director, has affirmed that the Athletic Federation of Nigeria (AFN) Board led by Ibrahim Gusau, is recognized by the World Athletic governing body.

Adeleye who disclosed this in a telephone chat said all efforts made my the Sports Ministry locally and internationally to stop the recognition of Gusau as the authentic AFN President failed including court where the sports ministry application for stay of execution was rejected.

“What I know is that anyone who stands on the truth will always be vindicated by God. Our board did everything possible to ensure success at the World Athletic Championship but the Sports Ministry had another thing in mind to ease us out.

“Nobody wants to destroy the board. The sports ministry should allow us to serve out our tenure.

” Letters written by the Sports Ministry to the international bodies were rejected and they were advised to work with our board.

“Well, Ibrahim Gusau is the president of the federation and Sunday Adeleye is the Technical Director and we are working. We have judgment in our favour that recognised Ibrahim Gusau as the president.

However, a statement signed by the Legal Department of Ministry of Youth and Sports refuted the claim that the Appeal Court recognised Ibrahim Shehu Gusau as the President of the AFN, urging Nigerians to wait for the pronouncement from the Court at the appropriate time.
