Victor Osimhen has been ruled out of the Super Eagles’ upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau, Prompt News Online reports.
Osimhen sustained a muscle strain during Galatasaray’s 3-2 away victory over Istanbul Başakşehir on September 4.
The 27-year-old has yet to make an appearance for the Yellow and Reds since suffering the injury.
Despite the setback, he was included in Nigeria’s squad for the qualifiers by head coach Éric Chelle, who had hoped the striker would recover in time to feature in the matches.
However, Osimhen’s recovery has been slower than expected, prompting the decision to rule him out of both fixtures.
Nigeria will host Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Thursday before travelling to Bissau four days later for their matchday two encounter against Guinea-Bissau.
The Super Eagles will be looking to make a strong start to their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign.
