President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of a foremost legal practitioner, Mr Achike Charles Umunna as Bulgaria’s Honorary Consul to Nigeria.
The Bulgarian parliament and President had last year, nominated Umunna as Honorary Consul awaiting endorsement by the Nigerian government.
Umunna has worked as junior advisor in the cabinet of the Federal Minister of Defence, legal advisor at the National Assembly, and representative of Nigeria to the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris.
He manages one of the biggest law firms in Lagos, specializing in international commercial arbitration and international commercial law; and has been on the boards of directors of several commercial companies.
He has been legal representative in Nigeria of many Bulgarian companies.
Meanwhile, Bulgaria has opened a Consulate in Nigeria, with an embassy in Abuja headed by Ambassador Yanko Yordanov.
The Council of Ministers also on Wednesday decided to open a Bulgarian consulate in the Federal Republic of Nigeria headed by an honorary consul with headquarters in Lagos.
The consulate will service Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, and Anambra states.
