Protesting students from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) on Wednesday attacked the convoy of Ogun State Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, in Abeokuta.
The Deputy Governor was en route to represent Governor Dapo Abiodun at the Armed Forces Remembrance Day event held at the 35 Artillery Brigade in Alamala when the incident occurred.
The students, wielding sticks and other objects, blocked the road and vandalized several vehicles in the convoy. Efforts by security personnel to pacify the protesters and clear the road proved futile.
The situation escalated after the students identified the Deputy Governor, leading to heightened aggression, according to reports by Naija News.
To de-escalate tensions, the convoy rerouted to the Deputy Governor’s lodge, allowing the protesters to disperse.
Despite these measures, several security operatives sustained injuries, and multiple vehicles in the convoy were damaged during the confrontation. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
