Former Super Eagles head coach, Sunday Oliseh has said it is important for the team to earn a berth at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 2026 World Cup finals will be co-hosted by Mexico, Canada and United States of America.
The Super Eagles missed out on a place at the last edition of the global soccer fiesta hosted by Qatar.
Augustine Eguavoen’s side are facing the danger of missing out on the next edition of the mundial following a poor start to the qualifying campaign.
The West Africans are second from bottom in their group with three points from four games.
Oliseh said it would be a disaster if they failed to qualify for the mundial for the second consecutive time.
“Africa could be represented by as many as 10 countries at the next World Cup, we’re at the risk of not being one of these countries and it will be a disaster if Nigeria do not qualify,” Oliseh told Supersport TV.
“I was at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar for six weeks working on the FIFA study Group and it was painful that Nigeria were not there.”
