The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the renaming of the Federal Ministry of Communications to be called Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.
The Minister superintending the Ministry, Dr Isa Pantami who disclosed this while briefing State House Correspondents at the end of FEC meeting chaired by Vice President prof. Yemi Osinbajo; said the change is in compliance with global standard and to reflect the evolvement of Digital technology around the world.
He said the new Ministry is already developing the digital economic policies, infrastructure and capacity building to ensure Nigerians are digitally literate.
He also said the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has been directed to ensure the cancellation of the proposed USSD charges by MTN.
Also speaking, Minister of Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika said the Council Approved the procurement and installation of Communication equipments and ATC Consol at the airports in Katsina and Zaria, Kaduna state in order to improve communication and safety in aviation sector.
