Six hundred and thirty -two cadets of the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) are undergoing final outdoor training before their graduation in Jos, Plateau.
The training which started on July 15 in Jos is expected to end on Aug. 2 in Kontagora, Niger.
AVM Ismaila Kaita, NDA Deputy Commandant who inspected the training at the Leadership and Citizens Centre, Shere Hills, Jos, said that the training was to test the readiness of the young officers to handle tasks.
“This final training is in four phases with the first and second phases taking place in Jos, while the third and fourth would be in Kontagora from July 21 to Aug. 2.
“The first part which is map reading was done on July 15 and the current one which is ongoing is leadership and endurance training.
“Thereafter, the cadets would move to Kontagora to continue with the two other stages; the tactical stage and battle inauguration.
The deputy commandant said that the main aim of the exercise was to test the cadets` leadership qualities, endurance, map reading, command and control capabilities, among other military competences.
“This is the final phase of their camping exercise and we must ensure that they are ready to face the task as young officers,” Kaita said.
He stated that from the observation, the cadets were working hard to meet the target set for them.
Maj. Gen. Augustine Agundu, Commander, Operation Safe Haven, the military task force in charge of security in Plateau,expressed confidence on the preparedness of the cadets to face tomorrow’s challenges.
The commander said that the constructive human activity like the training would help the society to grow.
He implored Plateau people to continue to live in peace with one another to attract other government establishments to the state.
“We have a beautiful facility here on the Plateau at Leadership and Citizens Training Centre, Shere Hills, Jos lying in waste.
“We are the people to allow peace to reign so that the state and indeed the indigenes will live as human beings as we are supposed to be,” he stated.
Cadet Oluwaseun Oyetunde, who said that they had gone through a lot of challenges in the course of the training, said that they were better for it.
