Nigeria’s Falconets were eliminated from the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia in Łódź on Sunday.
Moses Aduku’s side started brightly and dominated the opening half, with Janet Akekoromowei coming close when her effort struck the crossbar.
Tumininu Adeshina also tested Colombian goalkeeper Luisa Agudelo, who produced a save to keep the game goalless.
Nigeria continued to pile pressure on Colombia after the restart, but their momentum was disrupted in the 77th minute when Kafayat Mafisere was shown a red card.
With a numerical advantage, Colombia pushed forward in search of a winner and eventually broke Nigeria’s resistance in stoppage time, with Valerin Loboa scoring the decisive goal.
The late strike ended the Falconets’campaign despite a spirited performance from the Nigerian side.
