Nigeria’s Super Falcons remain on course to secure a place at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations following a 5-0 mauling of Cape Verde in the first leg of their final qualifying round contest at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Thursday.
Uchenna Kanu opened the floodgate for Uchenna Kanu on seven minutes when she tapped home from close range.
Cape Verde nearly equalised in the 17th minute but Chiamaka Nnadozie produced a stunning save to deny the visitors.
Gift Monday doubled Nigeria’s lead from a goal mouth scramble five minutes before the half hour mark.
The Super Falcons piled more pressure on the Cape Verdeans despite their advantage with Kanu scoring her second of the game late in the first half after she was set up by a brilliant Toni Payne’s pass.

Substitute Esther Okoronwko scored Nigeria’s fourth in the 66th minute with a sublime finish off Esther Akudo Ogbonna’s cross.
Defender Rofiat Imuran set up Okoronwko for her second of the game 13 minutes from time.
The reverse fixture will take place next week Tuesday in Praia.
