The Candidate of the Labour Party in the just concluded presidential election, Mr Peter Obi has said his interest in seeing Nigeria work for everyone would have made him support Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for President if the All Progressive Congress (APC) had given him the ticket to run.
Mr Obi stated this while interacting with friends and associates during an informal gathering to mark Mr Dele Momodu’s birthday in London.
According to him, “I am desperate to see Nigeria work. I don’t hide it. Any day anytime, I even confronted APC, if you wanted, why didn’t you bring Osinbajo.”
Mr Obi further emphasized the importance of having competent hands occupying key positions of authority, noting that “let’s have the place working for everybody so that we can have people who want to work for the country and are healthy and good.
“The person they have brought today, it is not as if he cannot do it, but that would have been 20 years ago, not the kind of country that we have today. Because the country needs somebody like me 24 hours working.”
Mr Obi has at different informal gathering expressed his admiration for the VP, even stating that he would not have contested for the seat of the President if the APC had given Osinbajo the Presidential ticket.
